Queen of Hearts is a London based electro-pop solo act.

After causing a big stir in the internet world with her fantastic cover of ‘Spanish Sahara’, she has finally released her debut EP titled ‘The Arrival’. Can it stand up to all colossal amount of expectance that I put into it after hearing just one song?

The EP starts with a very funky synth bass line, very promptly followed by vocals and other drizzles of electronic effects that add some interesting depth to the song. As an opener ‘Shoot the bullet’ does a great job of getting everyone pumped with a fast paced start that just gets faster and catchier until it breaks into it’s delicious chorus. However, if ‘Shoot the bullet’ is a delicious starter, then ‘Black star’ is the blissful follow up main course that plays with my taste buds…  ‘Black star’ is easily my favourite song on this EP; it mixes a few electronic genres together to create this spectacular song that I will have on repeat for a long time. Queen of Hearts sexy vocals tongue against the slow moving beats in the verse, until, the chorus…

Add some v-coder vocals, some pitch shift vocals and some. Even now, as I write this review, I’m listening to it. Moving on from that masterpiece, we move onto the centre piece of the meal ‘Spanish Sahara’; as I stated last time when we showcased the new track, I thought the pacing was really great and that I wish all artists put this much love and care into their work. Since I’ve already talked about this track, I’ll move onto the last two tracks.

‘Where are you now’ took some time to grow on me, this is mainly because I was not fond of how it started out; sounded very average and then the little nuances started to come in; the little synth pulsations are used to the best effect and are not overused at all. Heart-struck lyrics that make you stretch out your arms to cuddle the artist and tell her that everything is going to be alright, make this song, one of the more innocent tracks of the EP.

The final track ‘Freestyle’ is another fantastic track that really get’s those primal urges thumping in your brain. It’s probably the most minimal track, but still offers a very loud and big chorus that will be very memorable.

The EP is very well produced and put and we can thank Stuart Price for that, who has previously worked with Madonna and Kylie. His presence is, in my opinion, very apparent as everything is very well mixed, supremely put together and it does have that electro-pop sound that is very similar to a lot of Kylie’s work.
